Merc Rx in Earth signs

Another Mercury retrograde is upon us, and this post is late as usual. My excuse is – I’ve been writing, but more on that in another post.

With all that has been going on in the world in the past weeks (what with the ongoing phone hacking scandal, European economic crises, US political standoff and Middle East unrest among other things), the usual delays experienced during Mercury retrograde can seem pretty inconsequential. But the slowdown may offer a good opportunity to regroup and catch our breath, and take a second look at the situation instead of reacting.

Mercury this period retrogrades from 2 to 26 August 2011, from 1+° Virgo to 18+° Leo. How is Mercury expressed in Leo?

If people are feeling the extra intensity these past couple of days, it might be a reflection of Mercury retrograding back over Mars and Pluto sitting on top of each other at 4° Capricorn. I have Jupiter at 3° Cap and Venus at 4° Cancer, so I’m feeling like I’m dragging around sacks of potatoes at the moment; sacks which I feel like flinging at people from time to time.

Here are some excerpts on the triple conjunction from the blogosphere:

  • ElsaElsa:

Right now we have this very intense, Mars, Mercury, Pluto conjunction in Capricorn and it’s just not the kind of energy a person can ignore. It’s going to erupt one way or the other, like a war. This is occurring for all of us, even if the manifestation is as innocuous as a fever the comes up in yourself or your child.

  • Julie Demboski: ‘Tilt-A-Whirl’ says it all I think!
  • Libra Seeking Balance:

Another way of looking at this combination is Mercury is being forced to act as a mouthpiece for Mars and Pluto. The thing is Mars and Pluto in Capricorn are a very powerful combination and when they throw a punch it will go through the wall, not bounce off of it. Keep that in mind when you start throwing words around right now because they will be weapons capable of penetrating deep into another person’s psyche.

  • Planet Waves:

There is a message involved; that’s the nature of Mercury. Whatever this chart is about, there is a message. In personal matters, this is a day to either stay silent or if you want to speak, to choose your words carefully. That would choosing include listening, a skill rare enough to find. Listening would include to yourself and to others. The retrograde advises introspection, thinking before you act, and focusing on psychology and motives, especially your own.

I’ve had a couple of emails and messages asking for updates. Apologies not to have posted this earlier but I’m putting this blog on hiatus for a bit — at least until the next Mercury retrograde cycle. There is too much going on in my life at the moment that I’m trying to process, lots of balls in the air I’m trying to juggle.

This current Mercury retrograde stationed right on my midheaven, so if I get a chance to post when it goes direct, I might do so. Especially if anything significant happens.

In the meantime, here are a few previous posts on Mercury retrograde in Virgo.

Have a good one, all.

I’ve had a crazy-intense time these past week, especially around the last Full Moon in Scorpio. Still trying to process it all.

What to say about this retrograde? What can be said?

Greece.

Wall Street.

March on Wall Street.

Dow Jones tech glitch.

Oil rig spill.

Second Icelandic volcanic ash cloud.

UK Election chaos.

Not the 4G.

Take it around with you when Mercury is about to retrograde.

Apparently, one of Apple’s software engineers took a 4G prototype along with him to a beer garden on his birthday and left it behind. What happened next is recounted here.

Ho, ho, ho!

Extracted from an article in The Huffington Post:

An Australian publisher is reprinting 7,000 cookbooks over a recipe for pasta with “salt and freshly ground black people.”

This has to be the Merc rx gaffe to end all gaffes. If it weren’t so disturbing.

A case of Freud? Or iPhone autospell?

Or, as a friend of mine offered: ‘There’s a ghost of Freud in autospell.’

The travel chaos caused by the Icelandic volcano from last week is very much an effect of Mercury retrograde writ large (Lynn Hayes mentions this), as the cardinal t-square intensifies. This is not to say that Mercury retrograde ’caused’ the eruption or the delays, merely that the planetary positions appear to reflect events and experiences on earth.

It is hard to not to be awed by the spectacle of this unprecedented event in modern times. The last time this volcano erupted was in 1822, modern aviation hadn’t yet been invented to be disrupted. Although the disruption is extensive — not just impacting holiday travel, but also business and trade — the lack of hysterical demands for accountability is conspicuous. It’s a worrying situation obviously, but how can one find fault with a volcano that is doing what it does? As this op-ed article from The Observer notes:

… we cannot blame the volcano, only observe how liberating it is sometimes to be powerless before nature.
