Merc Rx 2006

Mercury retrograded from 25° 4′ to 09° 05′ Scorpio, from 28 October to 18 November 2006.

What I’ve experienced during this period seems to be largely to do with friendships and social events, hardly surprising since the retrograde takes place in my 11th house:

Am I alone in feeling the slightly tense nature of Mercury about to retrograde in the fixed and tenacious sign of Scorpio?

Mercury retrograded from 1° 22′ Leo to 21°04′ Cancer, from 4 to 29 July 2006.

What I’ve experienced during this period:

  • Found Robert Wilkinson’s book!
  • Visited by an acquaintance I’d met last year (shadow)
  • Attended a conference in South Africa and learned some things about myself
  • Revised a chapter from my dissertation for publication but haven’t heard from the editor
  • Heard from the editor of a paper I wrote two years ago that it is soon to be published, but then haven’t heard about the details since
  • Car developed exhaust trouble on a road trip, which turned out to be a blessing, as the mechanic discovered the brake pads were worn down
  • Lost a digital video, though not totally (see previous post).

Mixed month, some pluses, some minuses, and some in-betweens.

You’d think that after starting a blog on Mercury retrograde as a means of coming to grips with the phenomenon, I’d do better than get blindsided by it so easily.

I took some videos on my digital camera of a fireworks display earlier this evening. The first few were about 30 to 40 secs long, but I took a five minute sequence at the end to capture the whole finale, intending to edit it down on the computer. However, the file size was too large and the download was interrupted. I thought it might be easier to delete the pictures and shorter videos on the camera itself to ease the downloading of the longer one. Was I not too quick on the draw and erased the long clip as well?

Whatever possessed me to attempt such a transfer on the day Mercury stations direct, I’ll never know. A quick run-through of the photo recovery programme has also proved fruitless, though I wonder if it might come to life in a few days?

If it’s well and truly lost, my only consolation is the short clips still exist to mark the occasion. In hindsight, it’s always easy to say, ‘I should have known better’. Grammar could only have been invented for moments like this. Sob.

Its more serious implications aside, I can’t imagine a more likely event to happen during a Mercury retrograde than the conversation overheard between Bush and Blair because someone forgot to turn off the microphone!

Eric Francis analyses the astrology of the incident with his customary insight.
